Yes - We encourage you to call into our Cavehill Road pharmacy or telephone us directly to confirm whether we are currently participating in the palliative care network. Network membership and stock availability can change, so it's always best to speak with our team in person or by phone so we can give you an accurate, up-to-date answer and advise on the best way forward.

We understand that when a palliative care patient needs medication, speed matters enormously. Where a valid prescription is in place and we hold the relevant stock, we will prioritise dispensing. If we do not have a specific medicine in stock, our team will do everything possible to source it as quickly as we can — and will always be honest with you about timeframes.

To dispense palliative care medicines, we require a valid prescription from the patient's GP, hospital specialist, or hospice team. If you are collecting on behalf of a patient, please bring the prescription and, where possible, details of any other medicines the patient is currently taking. If you are unsure what you need, just call us first — we're happy to help.

In an urgent out-of-hours situation, we recommend contacting the GP out-of-hours service or the patient's palliative care team, who can advise on the most appropriate emergency supply route. Please also feel free to call our pharmacy during opening hours and we can help you prepare for any planned needs in advance.

Absolutely. Our pharmacists are here to answer questions about palliative medicines, explain how they work, and discuss any concerns about side effects or interactions. We welcome conversations with both patients and family members and will always speak with you in a private, sensitive manner.
